The purpose of color Photography is to make an image that is more realistic than a black and white photo of the same subject would be. Color photography is also able to capture more information, as it can record whether, for example, the grass is green (growing) or brown (not growing).

Whenever I open a picture in Photoshop 7.0 it makes the picture less saturated than it really is but when I view it outside of Photoshop it's normal. Why is Photoshop making pictures less saturated?

One answer may be color calibration/color management. To display an image correctly you must calibrate your monitor and the program you are viewing the image with must use color management. Photoshop uses color management but many other programs do not. But, if the monitor calibration is off/not correct images viewed in Photoshop will not look right. If monitor calibration is correct they will look correct in Photoshop and incorrect in programs that don't use color management. They may look better on your monitor, but the way they look in Photoshop is more likely to be the way they will look on other peoples computers. Without color management there is no telling how images will look on a given computer. Go here to learn more about color management http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal
