Ex 1: In an ionic compound (bond between metal & non-metal) The metal donates its electrons to the non-metal to create an ionic bond. (NaCl, table salt) Ex 2: In a molecular compound (bond between two non-metals) The two non-metals share the electrons between each element creating what is called a covalent bond. (C12H22O11, table sugar)
