The "Hail Mary" is a special devotion to the Mother of Jesus Christ. It begins with the salutation of the Angel Gabriel when he came to tell Mary she had been chosen. This is the Annunciation, and is a Holy Day in the Catholic Church. "Hail, Mary, full of Grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus." The text is from Luke 1:28. The last half of the prayer is a petition to her as the Mother of us all, since all believers are brothers and sisters of Christ and, hence, her children. it is the quote of the first words spoken to her by her cousin, Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, after the Annunciation.
