If it's auto it is located in the centre column beside the shifter.
What kind of car is it
If it is stuck in park it is most likely the brake lock switch on most cars there's a cable and switch at the shifter from the brake pedal when you push on the brake pedal the switch pulls out and unlocks the shifter so you can shift the car out of park. Some cars have a little slot by the shifter where you can insert a key to unlock the shifter.
The combination neutral start and backup light switch is mounted inside the shifter housing. Remove the screws holding down the shifter housing and remove the switch. Adjust the switch by moving it on its mounts.
It should. If there is a switch on the dash or shifter lever that is labeled OD off, you will know for sure.It should. If there is a switch on the dash or shifter lever that is labeled OD off, you will know for sure.
if its like my 84 put it in neutral on the shifter then select the 4x4 gear on the 4x4 shifter then place the shifter in d or r
The pnp switch is short for Park/Neutral Switch. Its pretty much the middle man between the ignition switch and the starter. It only allows the current from the ignition switch to reach the starter if the vehicle is in park or neutral. Its usually connected to the shifter. Allow me to correct myself on the first answer. If the shifter is on the column it will be located in the column region. If shifters on the floor its under the vehicle and connected to the shifter.
on the gear shifter
you probably broke the shifter cable. this is a metal cable that run from the shifter in your column to the prndl switch on the trans eay to fix and relatively cheap
If the shifter will not come out of park, check the brake light fuse. The shifter release solenoid uses the brake light switch to unlock the shifter.
The switch on the brake pedal is disconnected or defective. The shifter interlock has to get a signal from the switch to know the pedal is being pressed before it will release the shifter.
