The purpose of therapy is many fold. Your counselor can give you emotional support and advice, and can teach you how to cope with the stress you experience. He or she can mediate family or relationship conflicts. Many people who decide to go into therapy do so because they are experiencing a great deal of emotional pain, depression, or anxiety, and they feel overwhelmed. Therapy can help you identify the things in your life you can change to improve your sense of peace, well-being and self-esteem.
