When I changed the fluid in mine it took 3 quarts to fill it up. Also if you have a posi-trac rear end you will need to put in a Posi additive. You can get it at Oreillys or AutoZone. If you don't put in the additive the rear end will make a clunking sound when turning.
Bout 2 qts.
35 foot lbs.
4.9 pints or 2.45 quarts as per chilton professional shop manual 1973. Sirico Speed Center
4.5 pints (72 oz) for the corporate 12 bolt.
The 12 bolt is GM's strongest rear end and the 8.5" 10 bolt is also a great rear end that will hold up fine.

The Transmission Fluid Check bolt is in the front right part of the Transmission Pan. This is in regards to a 1998 Chevy Cavalier (since I have one myself) and may not be correct for any other year. This bolt is just to check the fluid level is correct and will not drain the entire Transmission fluid reservoir, you must remove the pan to remove the transmission fluid.
figure close to 2 qts. just keep filling until it starts to run out the fill hole and your good.
