Most cake mix instructions are to add:
*2 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 1/3 cups water
Blend dry mix with eggs, oil and water at low speed for about 30 seconds to blend, then beat a medium speed for 2 minutes.
Pour batter into greased, floured pans, then bake at 350 degrees, or till cake is done. If baking 2 standard size round cake layers, the instructions say to bake for about 35 minutes, but I find that over cooks the cake and makes it dry. I usually bake them for no longer than 25 minutes, with very good results.
After removing from the oven, let the cake layers cool for about 10 - 15 minutes, then turn out on cooling racks, let cool before icing.
*Some cake mix directions say to use 3 eggs, which you can do with any standard cake mix, even the ones that say to use 2 eggs.
You can also add different flavorings to the cake mix, such as a bit of coconut flavoring to chocolate cake mix for a delicious flavor, or vanilla extract to yellow cake mix. Butter flavoring added to cake mixes also adds a great flavor.

By any flavor box cake, pour the dry ingredients in to the bowl, then add 3 eggs, 1 cup of mayo and 1 cup of water. Blend till moist and smooth and bake according to pkg directions. It will turn out wonderful!

Box cakes are not necessarily more fluffy than homemade, it all depend on the recipe and the cook how fluffy a homemade cake will be. Box cake mixes are more consistent in many ways, including fluffiness because manufacturers add artificial ingredients that enhance various qualities of the finished cake.
