there is probably copper being burned somewhere on/in the stove copper is really the only thing that can turn a flame green

A yellow flame means the fuel/air ratio is not correct. The burner is not getting enough air. To fix this you need to adjust the burners air shutter to allow more air to come in. Remove the grate, find the air shutter and open it slightly. Once you see a nice blue flame it is adjusted correctly.

A yellow flame on a gas stove means that not enough oxygen is getting into the stove. Therefore, the stove is not burning cleanly and carbon monoxide could be produced.
