It came from the factory equipped with R12 Freon. I suggest you convert it to R134 Refrigerant. R12 is no longer produced and is very expensive if you can find it.
Most modern vehicles us R-134a refrigerant. If it's used in my '96 Caravan, should be no different in an '01 model. **There should also be a sticker underneath the hood letting you know the refrigerant specification**
The most likely place to find a Dodge Caravan is at a Dodge dealership where they will likely have both new and used models. You may also find a Dodge Caravan for sale by an individual advertised in the newspaper or online.
