There are same foods such as dioscorea root, lotus nut, fructus, carrot, and tomato that are all diet good for damaged kidneys. A huge assortment of dark, leafy greens; among general healthy eating, of course. And lots of water, and cranberry juice.

I'm not entirely sure whether you mean "what sort of diet should you be on if you have malfunctioning kidneys", or "what sort of diet can cause malfunctioning kidneys".

If you have malfunctioning kidneys, sometimes a low potassium diet is recommended (since kidney malfunction can cause high blood potassium). Lists of potassium containing foods are easily available online.

Kidney malfunction can be caused by ingesting too much protein - Atkins' type diets do not aid kidney function. (Neither do drinking the type of "muscle building" shakes that bodybuilders use).
