ANOTHER ANSWER

A Second Answer

I have to disagree with the first answer. The Holy Spirit is not God. He is the Comforter of people (John 14:26, NKJV). He is the Helper and Spirit of truth (John 15:26, NKJV). He is described in The Bible as the power of God (Acts 1:8). God and Jesus Christ send the Holy Spirit to:

1. Help man in his infirmities and weaknesses (Romans 8:26)

2. Help the true servants of God still remain rooted to their faith and withstand their many sufferings and trials

Another role of the Holy Spirit is to guide the chosen ones into all the truth. He does not speak of Himself but does so only according to the commandment of the one who sent Him.:

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13)

The Holy Spirit is not God. The Holy Spirit, whom the Son and the Father send, could not have been God. The Bible testifies that there are "seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth" (Rev. 5:6, NKJV).

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of throne and the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. (Rev. 5:6, NKJV)

The Trinity Doctrine is FALSE. Christ is not God. Neither is the Holy Spirit.

Were the Holy Spirit God also, it would appear that there are not only three Gods but nine Gods because there are seven spirits being sent by God. The fact that the Holy Spirit is being sent proves that He is not, and could not be God, because the one who sends is greater than the one sent.

Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. (John 13:16, NKJV)

The Trinity Doctrine is FALSE. Christ is purely man, composed of body, soul and spirit, and made of bones and flesh. He is extraordinary, yes, but He is still man.

"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know-" (Acts 2:22, NKJV)

In John 17:1 and 3, it is stated quite clearly how our Lord Jesus Christ Himself proved that the Father, not He, is the only true God: "Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: 'Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent'." (NKJV, emphasis ours)

The declaration of Christ regarding His state of being: "But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who was told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this." (Jn. 8:40, New King James Version)

The Father is God and therefore not man.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24, NKJV)

The Holy Spirit is the out working power of God. All that God does he does through his Holy Spirit.

Also the Holy Spirit intercede for us.

Additional Answer:

Good answer above. I've given more detail in this answer.

Letting the Scriptures define 'Holy Spirit,' we read that the Holy Spirit is God's outflowing power (Luke 1:35). It imparts God's Love as it is 'poured out' in the hearts of believers (Romans 5:5). King David was inspired to tell us it is the means by which God created and brought into physical existence the entire Universe (Psalm 104:30). This 'God-Power' is the way in which He works in the minds of humans who were made in His image (Genesis 6:3). It is also the power that performs miracles; healing the sick, sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, even life to the dead during Christ's earthly ministry (Luke 5:15-17).

John 14 tells us that Christ did not leave His disciples 'abandoned' when He rose into Heaven. But by the power of the Holy Spirit, both Jesus and His Father would dwell inside all true Christians (verses 20, 23). The Holy Spirit imparts understanding and strength as it flows out from God (John 15:26) and connects our minds to Gods. Remember, God is Spirit (John 4:24) and is Holy (Leviticus 19:2; Revelation 15:4).

The Holy Spirit is the means by which Christ and the Father make their presence felt in the hearts and minds of believers. It is also called the 'Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of God' (Romans 8:9-11).

Never is the Holy Spirit spoken of as a 'person' or in any specific communion with the Father & Son or for mankind to have 'fellowship' with the Holy Spirit. Usually, the Spirit is compared to wind which fits the Greek word 'pneuma' for spirit or breath or wind. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word used for spirit was 'ruach.'

The Holy Spirit is offered to mankind for the great purpose of each of us to come to SHARE in God's Power by renewing our minds (Titus 3:5; Romans 12:2). We become a new creation with God's laws written upon our hearts and minds (Hebrews 8:10).

Read any of the Apostle Paul's openings verses. Or for that matter the Apostle Peter or John. Even Jude. Yes, not one of the books of the New Testament opens with anything that even approaches what some in Christianity teach - a trinity. Does any reader here think for a moment that Paul would ever dishonor or neglect the Person of God? Food for thought :)

Are you to praise the Holy Spirit?

As God the Holy Spirit is worthy of respect and honor and is to be obeyed. What we find in scripture however is that the role of the Holy Spirit is to bring glory to Jesus Christ and God the Father, even though He is Himself fully 'part' of the Godhead. The role of the Holy Spirit is to, in the words of Jesus 'testify of me' and he also brings to our remembrance whatever Jesus has commanded us. Thus it would appear that a focus specifically on the Holy spirit without reference to the one who sent Him is unscriptural, although we ought to give credit where credit is due, since we cannot say 'Jesus is Lord' except by the Holy Spirit. The Holy spirit can also be grieved and it would appear that this may indeed occur if we ignore what God's word says and say that the Holy spirit has led us to do something which God has not commanded but has in fact prohibited. The best way to honor and even 'praise the Holy Spirit is to do what God says and what the Spirit expressly says and that is to honor Jesus Christ and praise Him and glorify God the Father.

Why does the holy spirit play the main role in confirmation?

The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church, the Body of Christ. He is with Christ, the Head of the Church, in each member of the Church to unite them, and in the Church as a whole in perfect harmony. In the Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit builds up the Body in charity, forms the Body through Baptism, gives growth and heals its members by the Sacraments and distributes His gifts and is the source of all virtues and special graces. Accordingly, the Church is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit also brings out the faith in people, so that he or she may have an eternal life with the Lord, our God and with Jesus Christ, whom the Father sent.
