During translation, the mRNA leaves the nucleus and attaches onto a ribosome on the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Once attached, the ribosome translates the mRNA into amino acids, which fold into a protein.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a network of membranes running through the cytoplasm and taking up most of its space. In some areas, these tube-like structure are flattened with sacs at the top.

Rough ER (with ribosomes attached) are involved in producing and secreting proteins such as while blood cells that produce antibodies and digestive cells that produce enzymes.

Smooth ER (with no ribosomes attached) produce lipids and fats. These are common in cells that produce steroid hormones such as oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone.

Since ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis, rough ER has a big part to play in the role of protein synthesis. After all, many ribosomes are attached to the rough ER.

Name the two kinds of endoplasmic reticulum?

Two types of Endoplasmic Reticuli exists, the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of proteins -{from through}- VIA the ribosomes embedded within its structure. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of lipids and steroids.

What organelle is responsable for protein and lipid synthesis?

The Endoplasmic Reticulum (E.R.) is responsible for lipid synthesis however ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis. Ribosomes are also present in endoplasmic reticulum - rough E.R. Smooth E.R. contains no ribosomes.

What is the the function of the reticulum?

The endoplasmic reticulum is a packaging system. There is a rough and a smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is important in the creation and storage of steroids.

Why is the endoplasmic reticulum referred to as a biosynthetic factory?

yes rough endoplasmic reticulum is involved in synthesis of protein

What organelle involved in ribosome synthesis?

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

What metabolism is rough endoplasmic reticulum associated with?

protein synthesis

What organelle is involved in lipid production?

The Endoplasmic Reticulum is involved in these processes. The rough ER is involved in protein synthesis. The smooth ER is involved in lipid synthesis.

What is the maze of tubes and sacs that produces a variety of molecules?

It is the endoplasmic reticulum. This consists of regions with embedded ribosomes (the rough endoplasmic reticulum) and regions without (smooth endoplasmic reticulum). The endoplasmic reticulum interconnects with the nuclear envelope, and is involved in both transport and metabolism, including lipid synthesis (in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum) and protein synthesis (in the rough endoplasmic reticulum).

What is the nickname for a endoplasmic reticulum in a cell?

The ER. It depends on if you are referring to the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (smooth ER) or the rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER).

What is the difference between a rough ER and a soft?

rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is with ribosomes attached .helps in protein synthesis Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum no ribosomes

Which ot these organelles prepares proteins to be fully funlly functional?

the rough endoplasmic reticulum

What does the rough endoplasmic reticulum do for your body?
