Naloxone is usually given by intravenous bolus injection, repeated every 2-3 minutes until a resposne occurs. It can also be given by intravenous infusion or if the IV route in unavailable, it can be given sub-cut though the response time is slower.
A side note on this:
Naloxone has a shorter half life than morphine, therefore the naloxone may be metabolised and removed from the body before the morphine. If the morphone plasma concentraion has not reduced to safe levels, the person could show the symptoms of overdose again.
Methadone should be taken orally as prescribed.
Unless there has been an overdose, there is no antidote for morphine. Help for addiction?...only treatment. In the case of overdose, Narcan can help if the timing of administration is right.
morphine
Yes the oral route for drug administration is the safest route.
Morphine is generally counted milligram for milligram with Oxycontin. Percocet, Vicodin, Roxycodone, morphine and Oxycontin have the same basic active ingredient. So 100mg morphine will be stronger than an 80mg Oxy.
