Arizona police have broad new powers to question and arrest anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. The legislature has passed a billed that would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally, and would require police officers to question individuals about their Immigration status if they form a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country without authorization

Why are people against the law SB1070?

People are against SB1070 because they believe it leads to racial profiling and discrimination against immigrants and people of color. Critics argue that the law encourages law enforcement to target individuals based on their appearance or perceived immigration status, which can lead to violations of civil rights.

Did SB1070 Bill pass?

Yes, the SB1070 Bill, also known as the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, was passed in Arizona in 2010. It aimed to give police officers the authority to check the immigration status of individuals they encountered during routine stops, if there was reasonable suspicion they were undocumented immigrants. However, some parts of the law were subsequently struck down by the Supreme Court.

Why was SB1070 found unconstitutional?

The law is too vague, especially the part that says that the police will have the power to determine whether or not a person is illegal. It does not mention how this will be done, which lead activists to believe that racial profiling will be used, which is an illegal tactic.

Why is America racist?

Most likely because African-Americans were their slaves, but were set free. And before that, Native-Americans were here first, and Columbus and the settlers kicked them out. America has a long history of racism through its people and through its laws, even in today's society, for example SB1070 and HB56, which racially profiles Latinos.

Is there anyway you can stop illegal immigration from taking US jobs away?

i don't think so... but there is a U.S. law SB1070, that says, " a violation of human rights and injustice against the integrity of our communities." what this means (i'm guessing), is that its a violation to force someone or kick out someone who already has been in the U.S., for some time....

What is sb1070?

okay, its pretty odd, but what i heard was its saying they want no immigrants at all like illegal or even if they become citizens. it is mostly directed towards Hispanics and Latinos. there is something about it on Facebook, if you would like you can join :) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000459915513#!/group.php?gid=116632911688109 OK, I just READ SB1070, loads of legalese and big words. Hears a link http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070p.htm SB 1070 does not say, do, or allow anything that isn't already Federal law. Federal agents, ICE, Border Patrol, etc can all ready request ID, arrest both LEGAL and Illegal Immigrants on suspicion of criminal activity and deport them. All SB1070 does is give Arizona police/sheriff agents the right to detain and hand over trespassers to the US to the Federal Immigrations Authorities. It is targeting people of ALL Nations and Ethnic backgrounds, from Canadians to Jamaicans and Javanese to Sudanese, who trespass on American soil AND commit other crimes, from traffic violations to robbery and murder. Other than the fact that the Hispanic/Latino population of Arizona is and has been very vocal about many things, this law, which has yet to go into effect, DOES NOT target Hispanics, Latinos or any specific ethnic group. In my opinion it is to stem the tide of human, drug and gun trafficking in the state of Arizona and the Nation at large.

Why was Russell Pearce recalled?

For advocating anti-Latino and anti-immigrant laws in Arizona. The Latino superpower of the United States assembled and successfully went through the recall election to eliminate Russell Pearce from office. Russell Pearce was the author of the unconstitutional racist law: SB1070. His legislation created a fearful environment in Arizona where thousands of families were living day after day in fear. Arizona lost a lot of money in lawsuits following the signing of the law by Jan Brewer. Loss in business; not many people both in the US and around the world want to visit Arizona to spend their money after this shameful law. Many boycotts on Arizona products also affected their economy. The Fiesta Bowl scandal also played a role in his recall.
