The light warns you that you are not wearing your seatbelt. Pushing the button cancels the warning.

If your wiring is good, the relay may be the problem. The relay is located under the dash. Its a retangular relay with 2 prongs and a little tip on it.
The dimmer switch near/on the headlight switch is a potentiometer and it controls the dash light intensity, as well as manually turns on the interior lights at the high(bright) end.

Interior light comes on by itself. Overhead switch not effective and when it is slid back and forth the light for seatbelt check comes on on the dash. Seatbelts check ok. I get a check seatbelt tone when I slide the overhead switch back and forth. How do I replace interior dome light?
I take it to my mechanic and say, "it's broken. Can you fix it"?
Most older GM headlight switches are removed by (diconnect battery) reaching under dash to the headlight switch and depressing the small release button at the top of the switch while pulling on the stem for the switch then unplug the wire harness. There is a stem nut behind the knob that fastens the assy to the dash surface.
