Wisconsin is quite varied in appearance from the urban landscape of Milwaukee, the farmlands spread throught the state, the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, the small towns dotting the map, the rock cliffs along the Wisconsin river, the mulitude of lakes, streams and marshes to Chequamegon National Forest. Overall, it is largely rural, small towns and farms, a haven for tourist from nearby Chicago seeking to escape the smog for fresh air and quiet. It is a for the most part a modest, peaceful, pastoral setting with lush green foilage during the ever too brief spring and summer, brilliant hues of orange and red in the autumn and blankets of folded white in the winter. It is as my uncle who has lived in some of the mountainous states called it "flatland", who after having seen some of the tallest mountains in the state referred to them as "speed bumps". Nevertheless, it has its share of rolling hills and some splendid cliffs. Overall, it is a very beautiful place.
