This is quote from my Owner's Manual (2002 Ford F-150). "Brake-shift Interlock: This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is in the ON position unless the brake pedal is depressed. If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with the ignition in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed: 1) Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition key to LOCK, then remove the key. 2) Insert the key and turn it to OFF. Apply the brake pedal and shift to neutral."
This does work on my 2002 F-150 w/Automatic Transmission. Essentially you apply the park brake insert the key and rotate it clockwise to the "OFF" position and this unlocks the steering wheel and the shifter. Now the shifter is free and you shift to N (Neutral). There are five key positions and the last is 5 or START, 4 is ON, 3 is OFF, 2 is key out, and 1 is ACCESSORIES.
WARNING: Not being able to shift out of park is an indication of bigger problems. In my case it was a warning that there was a problem with my brakes. My brake light was already on when it stopped shifting. After you get your F-150 moving drive safely to a mechanic and have it looked over. Particularly the brakes you may have a fuse out or low on brake fluid (my case) or any number of other things. Its your safety at stake.
yes. you just have to know what wires lead to and which ones to connect together
