You can duplicate an entire layer, or, if you have a selection, the selection will be duplicated to it's own layer. This is great when trying different techniques or effects without having to worry about errors.

That's the shortcut for copy. The shortcut for paste is Ctrl V.

Ctrl - C is the most common keyboard shortcut to copy highlighted text, but there are others, depending on the application you are using. For example, in Word you can use Shift - F2.

Right click on the shortcut, change it's name. Right click on the shortcut, select properties, and change what the icon looks like.
Number of ways. - If you have a picture open in PS then use the rectangular marquee tool to select the picture you want to copy. Then go click EDIT > Copy. The picture - open you picture you want to copy this to and once opened click into the picture - go click EDIT > PASTE. Your additional picture will open in a new layer (similar to a picture on picture)

To add a layer that contains a copy of the current selection's pixel you will have to go to the layers panel.
