There are two main regions of the crust. The top layer (continental crust) riches in silica and aluminium, the lower layer (oceanic crust) riches in silica and magnesium.

Both of these crust are the solid layers.

And the continental crust is thick and light (25-70 km thick) while the oceanic crust is thinner and denser(6-8 km thick).

Because it is constantly being recycled!

New rock is formed at divergent plate boundaries and, as this new rock moves the plate outward, away from the divergent boundary, the other edge of the plate is subducted.

In layman's terms, one side of the plate is constantly being built upon and the other side is constantly sliding beneath the connecting continental plate where, over time, it melts and is recycled.

Yes! The average density of the continental crust is 2.7 g/cm3 compared to a value of 3.3 g/cm3 for oceanic crust.

What is a continental crust?

the continental crust is the plate crust formed under the continent (less density) as opposed to oceanic crustformed under the ocean(higher density)

Does earth's crust have the same density?

Density will vary from place to place with ocean crust being denser than continental crust.

What is a Earth crust?

the continental crust is the plate crust formed under the continent (less density) as opposed to oceanic crustformed under the ocean(higher density)

How does the age of oceanic crust compare to the age of continental crust?

Oceanic crust is generally much younger. New ocean crust is constantly being formed.

What is the compition for the crust?

Crust is made up of mainly granite, a felsic rock wit a lower density than basalt, what makes up the ocean's crust, thus why the continental crust rises up compared to ocean crust.

Ocean crust dives below continental crust because of what?

Because of its higher density, and gravity. One part of plate tectonic theory.

Oceanic crust is lighter than the continental crust?

No, the oceanic crust is denser. That's why the land areas "float" so much higher than the ocean bedrock.

How does the age of the oldest continental crust compare to the age of the oldest ocean crust?

The oldest continental crust would be between three and one half to four billion years older than the oldest oceanic crust. This is due to the fact that ocean plates are subducted under the continental plates, subjected to partial melt and essentially recycled in the mantle before reforming.

What is the dominant rock type in the ocean crust and in the continental crust?

Basalt is the dominant rock in the ocean crust. And I assume Granite is dominant for continental crust.

Why is the ocean crust thinner than the continental crust?

It is not. The oceanic crust is thinner than the continental crust!

What layer of the Earth's crust that is not covered by ocean water is called the crust?

continental crust

Ocean crust dives below continental crust because?

Ocean crust is denser
