The southernmost human settlement is Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station right on the Geographical south pole. The population is around 200 in the summer, and 43 stayed the winter in 2009.


The Northernmost settlement is Alert, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada. It has a population of only 76! It is only 520 miles to the north pole!




(P.S. If you count summer-only settlements, the Russian Ice Camp, Borneo is the Northernmost settlement. It has a population of 100 (2006) and is only 60 miles from the pole itself!)
