In mainland continental Europe, it is Tarifa in Spain. Other places (e.g. Crete, Malta, Cyprus which are all islands) are more southerly.
La Restinga, El Hierro in the Canary Islands (which are part of Spain) is 550 miles further south than the sourthern tip of Gavdos near Crete. Does it not qualify as Europes most southerly point.

It's a close call between Spain and Greece. According to Wikipedia, the southernmost point of mainland Europe is Punta de Tarifa in Spain, but if you include islands then the southernmost point is Gavdos in Greece.
