I just changed the solenoid on my 88 GMC 6.2l Diesel. I think the bolts holding the starter in were 17mm. I know the bolts holding the wires on were 8mm. I didn't have anything metric on hand. To remove the wires you'll either need a closed end wrench or a deep socket.

disconnect + battery terminal take out 2 bolt out of starter from the engine block take off the wires remebering where they go do in reverse order to reconnect

Block plugIt is above the starter, you will need to move the starter over then you can see the Allen key bolt head. Undo this and watch out for the flood of coolent!
disconnect your battery. Remove your starter from under your truck and on the top of the starter is the soleniod. unbolt it, and bolt on your new one. Make sure that the spring and the teeth line up on the starter. replace pos. cable if needed. reinstall starter. Check all your other cables to make sure that they are ok. Later
