EagleThe eagle was a symbol born by men of action, occupied with high and weighty affairs. It was given to those of lofty spirit, ingenuity, speed in comprehension, and discrimination in matters of ambiguity. The wings signify protection, and the gripping talons symbolize ruin to evildoers. The eagle is held to represent a noble nature from its strength and aristocratic appearance, as well as its association with the ancient kings of Persia, Babylon and the Roman legions, having been the official ensign of those empires. Since then, other empires and nations have also adopted the eagle as their symbol, such as the German third Reich and the empire conquered by Napoleon. The eagle is also associated with the sun. As a Christian symbol, the eagle represents salvation, redemption and resurrection. The eagle has been represented over the centuries in a variety of different ways: wing tips pointed up or down, wings closed or rising or the eagle displayed from above with one or two heads. Parts of the eagle such as the head, wings, legs or talons, are also often symbols in heraldry. The claw of a bird and leg of a bird are always taken to be that of an eagle unless specified otherwise, and the eagle leg borne on a shield or coat of arms is said to signify that the "preyer upon others has been preyed upon," though this is highly uncertain. An interesting form of the eagle is the alerion, which is drawn without the beak or the legs. It is thought to represent a formerly great warrior who was seriously injured in combat and is no longer able to fight. The osprey may also be classed with the eagle. It is always represented as a white eagle and is referred to in heraldry as a sea-eagle.Quote from

Those with spiritual affections are likened to the eagle that fly's high above those earthly affections - yet observes all with excellent perception, an eagle represents the Spirit in relation to truth, knowledge and perception. Likewise, riches is symbolic for knowledge; "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!", "for riches [knowledge] certainly make themselves wings; they FLY AWAY as AN EAGLE towards heaven"; "ye have seen what I have done to the EGYPTIANS and how I bare you ON EAGLES WINGS and brought you unto My self" (Prov. 23:5; Exodus 19:4); "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with the WINGS OF AN EAGLE" (Isa. 40:31). To mount up with wings as eagles is to be elevated into knowledges of truth and good and thence intelligence and perception;."Doth the EAGLE mount up on high at thy command and make her nest upon high; from thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold a far off" (Job 39:26). The faculty of knowing, understanding and foreseeing, is here described by the eagle, and that this is not from ones own intelligence. As no real spiritual truth or true perception comes from ones own intelligence but the Spirit of God by influx. A flying eagle signifies the Spirit as to perception. To fly signifies to perceive and instruct, to perceive keenly as an eagle, and in the supreme sense, in which it has relation to the Lord, signifies to foresee and provide. "the Lord, who satisfieth thy mouth with good, so that thy youth is renewed like the EAGLES" (Ps. 103:5). To fill the mouth with good is to give understanding by means of knowledge's, hence a comparison is made with the eagle, "a great EAGLE with great wings, long-winged, full of feathers, came into Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar; and it was planted is a fruitful field, and it grew; and there was also another GREAT EAGLE, to which the vine did bend its roots" (Ezek. 17:1-8). Here the two eagles represent those of the Jewish and Israelitish churches, both as to the knowledge's of truth and consequent intelligence.
