For Canada, the House of Commons lasts for no longer than 5 years.

Once formed, the House of Commons can last for up to 5 years, subject to be sooner dissolved by the Governor General (generally on the advice of the prime minister). If a Parliament were to reach 5 years from the date of its summons, it would "expire"-no Canadian Parliament has ever expired, all have been dissolved earlier on the advice of the prime minister.

Members of the House of Commons do not have term restrictions-they can be elected as many times and for as long as they can maintain the support of enough voters.

Those elected to the House of Commons are called MPs, or Members of Parliament. There are additional roles, such as the Speaker, which members can adopt in addition to being an MP.
