Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs represents the Psychology of human motivation based on what we need to survive. At the bottom of the pyramid are the most basic things needed for survival (e.g. food, water), thus the lack of these would be the greatest motivator for action. Each level progresses upward in terms of less of a need for survival, therefore less of a motivator.
