One way is that when you turn over the engine you don't get a spark because the cam isn't moving also you could pull off the distributor cap and see if the distributor is spinning, other than that you have to open it up
The 327 cubic inch Chevrolet's distributor had points and condenser and not an ignition module. If you have an ignition module then you have a HEI distributor that was changed out.
