What is the torque for the alternator belt in a 1997 Mazda protege?

Tighten the belt until you have 1/2" of deflection at midpoint. I hope this helps you. Mark

I am having the same problem with a 99 Protege. I have changed the alternator and aligned/cleaned the pulleys and the problem persists.I replaced the alternator, on my 1997 Mazda Protege, seven times before someone figured out why the serpentine belt kept breaking. It was the belt tensioner! It had to be removed and rebuilt. Now it is working like a charm!! And I havn't had to replace the alternator in over 3 months!!!!

Yes it does have ABS. The older Protege 1997 and older dosnt.

not likely. the 1997 Mazda protege is a different chassis than the 1999 protege (BHA to BJ, respectively). the two transmissions between the two generations are also different, the BHA utilizing the FB4A-EL automatic transmission and the BJ utilizing the FN4A-EL automatic transmission. they also have different engines. you're better off going to a junkyard and pulling a auto trans from a third generation protege (1999-2003)...that would work. if you have any further questions, you can follow this link: hope this helps!

the fuel pump is in the gas tank itself. You have to remove the back seat to get at it.

Turn the belt inside out. you need to get it under the power steering belt and to the other side of the pulley. You can use a crescent wrench to turn the pulley and get the belt under the other one. Turn the belt back right side out. loosen the alternator bolt and place the belt around the alternators pulley. Tighten the alternator bolt.

It is not equipped with a fuel pump reset button. Check the fuse and relay.

you can't fix a sensor, you can replace one by removing it and installing the new one...:)

On my 1997 Protege a hose runs from the valve cover to the air intake assembly. Where the hose connects to the valve cover is the PCV valve.

Make sure it isn't the tire first. You will have to remove the strut, and have the bearing pressed out.

Take off the plastic cupholder fairing that surrounds the shifter; it's under the deck and AC controls.

I have had the best luck using NGK. Obtain proper plug number and gap from owners manual.
