According to my Haynes Repair Manual for 2wd 1987 to 1996 Dakota only : tighten the spindle nut slightly (no more than 12ft-lbs). Then, while spinning the hub in the forward direction, torque to 20 ft-lbs to seat the bearings. Next, loosen the nut 1/4 turn. Finally, tighten the nut by hand, no wrench of any kind.Install the nut lock and cotter pin.
