The weight of a 1979 Chevy Silverado camper special with a 400 tyranny is about 3,342 lbs. In the years 1973-1979 the truck weight did not change.
The 1979 Chevy Silverado glove box latch is held in place with two retaining screws. Remove the retaining screws and the glove box latch will come off.

Who said it won't ? It will fit right in there with NO problems
Some Pontiacs came from the factory with Chevy engines. If this is the case on your 79 firebird, then the transmission will bolt up to a 350 Chevy. If the car came with a Pontiac engine, then the bolt pattern is different and would not bolt up.
Faceing the engine its under the dis-cap on the right side. It is also very hard to get to, I advise the help of a profesional tech to change.
it should as they are the same year range it dossent matter if its a auto or a standard trand 2wd or 4wd
