There is only one meaning for the word noun:

A noun is a word for a person, a place, or a thing.

There are many types of nouns but all of them are defined as a form of the above. Types of nouns are:

Singular nouns are words for one person, place, or thing.
Plural nouns are words for more than one person, place, or thing.
