What did the Unit Crest for the 138th infantry regiment look like?

The link below is the 138th Machine Gun Battalion. The 138th Infantry Regiment was not attached to any Infantry Division. This regiment was removed from the 35th Infantry Division when the divisions were reduced from 4 regiments to 3 per division. This regiment may have existed and served in USA or temporarily attached to a division. Many of these unassigned units did not get a DUI or a crest approved by the Heraldry Division of the Army. There were no or very few DUI (Distinguishing Unit Insignia) pins issued or worn during WW1. They wore a bronze collar disc to identify the Regiment. Most likely it was a disc with crossed rifles and "138" over it. ALSO, many units had color variations of their Shoulder Patch to distinguish them. Some sources say that the 35th Division did NOT wear shoulder insignias before the armistice that ended WW1. The 35th Infantry Division did wear should patches at some time after WW1 that was the Santa Fe cross---very much like the WW2 patch. However these early patches had the colors were reversed so that the outline of the circle/cross were in the khakibackground. The voids between the circle/spokes were YELLOW. The center circle was divided into 4 sections and these were color-coded for different regiments and aritllery battalions. For the 138th Regiment, the top two sections were YELLOW and the lower two were BLUE. See LInks. One shows a painted Helmet with the 138 Regiment variation of the Cross. Link: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36341&hl=138th The 138th was several units. The 1/138th Inf Regt was first assigned to the 35th Division and then later was assigned to the 76th Division (i think) and seen combat in Alaska.

What is the fourth Texas infantry regiment?

The 4th Texas Infantry Regiment was not a unit in WW2. The divisions and regiments were not associated with a State in the name of the unit. Instead, the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment fought in the American Civil War (1861-1865) on the side of the Confederates States. It was made up of men from Texas. I think it served in General Hood's Texas Brigade that fought with distinction in Virginia.
