The best idea is to go onto eBay and click on the "completed listings" box so that you can search recently sold items for the Arty Art cards. Since they are extremely rare - 1:180 packs, I believe - they are worth a reasonable amount of money, but it might be less than you think. The nonsports trading card market isn't very active these days, mostly due to market saturation in the 90's. Simpsons cards, however, tend to retain a base value simply because of the rabidity of The Simpsons fan base, and some of the cards - the Gary Panter one in particular, I believe - are highly sought after because of the continued popularity of the artist. Trading card guides are poor indicators of monetary value as they calculate price based on rarity and character popularity; eBay will give you a much more realistic idea of what someone will pay for given card, though it may be somewhat disappointing.

The 22kt. "limited" edition gold cards have a low collectors value and are viewed as more of a novelty. Will a 1986 Topps Barry Bonds card be worth more when he retires or breaks the record?

Value is effected by supply and demand. When the number of cards available on the market is higher than the number of collectors in the market for the card, the value goes down. When the number of collectors is higher than the number of cards on the market the value will rise. When a ballplayer retires there is not much of a change in the demand for a card that was not there already. When a ballplayer breaks a record there is a sudden demand for a card as collectors want to invest in a card in anticipation of the value going up. This rush for the card temporarily inflates the value. Now cards that were sitting in collections, or in dealer stocks are released into the market to satisfy the sudden demand. In most cases especially with the newer cards (1980's and up) after this demand is met the value will lower again as the demand dies down. In the case of Barry Bonds the future value of the card will rely more on the effect of his steroid use on the number of collectors that will be looking to buy a Barry Bonds card. There is a set amount of 1986 cards made. If in the future as more collectors join the market, and the amount of Barry Bonds collectors grow then the card will have more value. Breaking a record only effects short term value. Supply and demand will always have the final say.

How much would a card be worth if 100 were made?

Value is dictated by supply and demand. If the number of collectors is more than the number of items made or available then the value rises. If the number of collectors is less than the number of items made or available then the value lowers. The more demand for the 100 cards the more valuable. If there are 1,000 collectors interested in a card of only 100 made it will have a higher value than a card of 100 made with only 200 collectors interested in it.

Why did my topps 1991 complete baseball card set decrease in value over the last 20years... aren't they supposed to be worth more now?

Supply and Demand not TimeA collectible does not grow in value because of age. Supply and demand dictates the value. As time goes by, and more collectors join the market looking for an item that is in low availability the value will rise.In 1991, the height of baseball card collecting, sets were produced in large numbers to meet the high demand. Today there are more sets or cards in the market than collectors. The value goes down.Baseball cards produced before 1980 are in fewer number because in time cards were ruined, thrown out or lost. Today these cards are in high demand, and the suplly is lower than the number of collectors, raising the value.

Vaulation on cards such as basketball cards from 1988 til 2000?

With the exception of limited edition issues, cards made in this time period were over produced, have a low value, and make a poor investment. Limited edition card are only as valuable as the demand in the market, and over time collectors can loose interest in them. It is very typical for new cards to sell at a high price when first issued, and loose value as time goes by. The older cards made before the 1980's, and tobacco era, pre war cards make a better investment as the cards are fewer, and collectors are growing in numbers. Investing in trading cards is a poor choice unless it is done as a hobby or for the enjoyment.
