The first U.S. silver dollars were struck in 1794. In particular, the U.S. didn't even exist in 1775 so there were no coins of any kind with a dollar or cent denomination.

You may have a novelty item or a replica coin. Please look for the word COPY or REPLICA somewhere hidden in the design. If you can't find it, post a new question with more details such as the coin's exact size and a description of the images and/or wording on it.

AnswerIt's extremely difficult to value one of these coins without seeing it in person. There are 3 different varieties of 1795 silver dollars and all are scarce. Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 07/2010:

Flowing hair, two leaves:

Very worn condition - $1,910

Moderately worn - $4,940

Slightly worn - $7,220

Almost no wear - $27,214

Uncirculated - $75,000 to $406,250 depending on quality

Flowing hair, three leaves:

Very worn - $1,780

Moderately worn - $4,190

Slightly worn - $6,000

Almost no wear - $21,340

Uncirculated - $68,750 to $375,000

"Bust" portrait:

Very worn - $1,440

Moderately worn - $3,750

Slightly worn - $5,440

Almost no wear - $18,790

Uncirculated - $47,450 to $568,750

However there are MANY counterfeits, so an in-person inspection by a trained expert is needed to authenticate any purported 1795 dollars.

"Eagle on the back"BTW, by law ALL silver dollar coins were required to have an eagle on the back so that's not a distinguishing feature.
8-3-11>>> In 1795 two different US one dollar coins were struck. A Flowing Hair and a Draped Bust and both have different varieties, but values are about the same at $2,500.00 to $35,000.00 depending on type and condition.

As with most early American coins, varieties exist, and the 1795 dollar has 5 Major varieties and two obverse designs, Flowing Hair & Draped Bust and all are considered scarce. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen. In general values of circulated examples run from $1,100.00 to more than $80,000.00 depending on grade and type.

NOTE: The entire series of these coins is known to have replicas, copy's & counterfeits.
