This coin is often called a Morgan dollar, after its designer George T. Morgan.

1900 is not generally a rare date for Morgan Dollars. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter above the DO in DOLLAR. It may be blank or there may be an O or S. If it has an "O", then take a good magnifier and closely examine it for traces of a "CC" mintmark around the "O" -- this is a scarcer variety.
