This coin was designed by Victor D. Brenner(front or obverse) and Frank Gasparro(back or reverse). It weighs 3.11 grams, has a diameter of 19 millimeters, and is composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. This coin is worth 1 cent in any circulate condition.
CorrectionThe above statements are correct for circulating cents minted prior to mid-1982, but 1980-S cents were only issued as proofs and sold in special sets for collectors. A 1980-S cent in its original holder is worth about a quarter as of 11/2010. However if it was broken out of that holder and spent its proof value has been eliminated and it's now only worth a penny. The coin has face value only.
$500.00
One cent, although I understand that the "melt value" of the metal it is composed of (95% copper and 5% tin and zinc) is closer to 1.5 cents (it is, by the way, illegal to melt down US coins for their metal value). In Proof condition, a 1980-S penny (minted in San Francisco) would be worth about $2.25.
They are still in circulation and are only face value.
The value would depend upon the denomination and the condition of the coin.
