The only silver halves dated 1994 were struck for special collectors' sets and all carry an S mint mark. If your coin is from a Prestige Proof Set it could sell for around $20 or so as of 03/2010.

If it has a P or D mint mark, it's an ordinary copper-nickel half dollar with no added value.

There were never any solid silver half dollars of any year or design. Solid silver is far too soft and would wear out very quickly. Silver Kennedy halves contained 10% copper (1964 only) or 60% copper (1965-70). 1964 halves are worth about 0.36 times the current price of silver, while those from 1965-70 are worth about 0.16 times.

Make sure that what you have really is struck in silver. The only silver Kennedy halves minted in 1995 were struck at San Francisco and carry an S mint mark. They were included in "Prestige Proof" sets sold only to collectors. They're surprisingly expensive - as of 05/2010 they sell in the range $47 to $60.

If your coin has a P or D mint mark, or doesn't say Prestige Proof on its original mint holder, you have a clad coin made of copper-nickel, not silver. Circulation issues are worth 50 cents. Clad proofs are worth $15 to $18.

It's considered to be an altered coin with no extra value to a coin collector. The coin underneath the plating is only worth 50 cents, and it would cost more to remove the few milligrams of gold than you could sell it for.

Private companies make and sell these items as "collectibles", but there's very little aftermarket value attached to them.

1964 Kennedy halves are the most common silver half dollars made. Circulated coins are only valued for the silver, about $11.00.
