You can fire 2 and 3/4 inch shells in a shotgun chambered for 3 inch shells. There is no 3 and 3/4 inch shell made.
The barrel may be able to be fitted however the shotgun would still be limited to 2-3/4" shells. A longer stroke of the bolt is required when shooting the 3" magnum shells which requires a different receiver. Not the best idea.
The Western Field model 30 pump action shotgun and the Stevens model 520 shotgun are one and the same firearm.Savage/Stevens made these for Montgomery Wards.The shotgun in question should show that it was chambered for the 12 gauge shotshell.The length of these shotgun shells were 2 3/4in. If your shotgun is not marked,I would have a gunsmith make a quick check of the chambering for you.This will only take a couple of minutes to do.

The length of the chamber in a 2 3/4 inch chambered shotgun is 2 3/4". The longer 3" shotgun shells will not fit in the chamber, being 1/4" too long. You can shoot 2 3/4" shotgun shells, of the correct gauge, in a 3" chambered shotgun.
The spec's on what the gun is chambered for will be stamped into the barrel right under the name and model number. If it says 2 1/2" don't try shooting 3" shells in it, it may blow up in your face.

In the US, or non-metric measurements, that means a 12 gauge shotgun chambered for 2.75 inch (usually read two and three quarter inch) shells. Sometimes, you'll see 12-76 to designate a 12 gauge shotgun chambered for 3 inch shells.
