value depends on condition. good is not excellent nor is excellent MINT. it's very hard for a layman to really report the condition of a gun. at this point I would guess (if excellent) between $1,000 & $2,000. go to: simpsonltd.com (a luger site) I'm sure he would need detail pics of your luger to make a 'guess' at possible worth......

The Lugar was standard issue in the Germany Army in WWI and the P38 was standard issue in WWII. Both used the same ammunition.Addition:The 9 x 19 mm cartridge fired by both the P38 and P08 (Luger) is popularly referred to as the 9mm Luger. The serial number 45987 does not show in any of my sources. The first number begins with 70000. There is one source, Proofhouse.com, which states that before 1958, Browning serial numbers did not contain date or model information, and cannot be dated using the serial number. I would further ask, does your gun actually state 'Hi-Power'? and does it have browning grips or 'FN' [ Fabrique Nationale ] stamped on them? Is the hammer spur or round, does it have fixed or adjustable sights? Is it made in Belgium and assembled in Potugal? All these things may be pieced together to get closer to a manufacting date. John Moses Browning designed this gun, as well as many others such as the Colt Government 1911, but sold the designs or had them made by other companies. FN made most of his guns and FN finally purchased the company in 1977. In 1991 GIAT bought FN -Browning, and they also had some dealings with B.C Miroku [Japan]

About the same as a = 1000 German mark that is dated 21 April 1910 with serial number 2562221B? =
a 1918 dated luger was probably used during WW1. The second date 1920, is a German inventory number to show that the pistol belonged to the German government. this was done because too many guns were being stolen... The number 2470 is the serial number. On the top toggle will be the makers name, i.e, DWM, Erfurt, Suhl if you look on the front grip strap you might see some letters or numbers. that would indicate the military or police unit it was issued to after WW1...
