A couple minor differences in interchangeable parts, but nothing major.Essentially, the 1200 was built by Winchester/Olin from 1964 through 1980. In 1981 (when the 1300 was introduced), Winchester Firearms manufacturing was taken over by U.S. Repeating Arms Company, continuing through the closure of the New Haven plant in 2007. There are some minor detail differences, such as how the slide bars attach to the bolt, but that's about it. The 1300 is pretty much a copy of the Winchester/Olin design. With very few exceptions (principally internal -- nothing to do with mag tubes, barrels, or furniture) parts and stocks are nearly 100% interchangeable.Also, if it matters, the 1300 & "1300 Defender" (no longer made) will shoot up to 3" magnum shells, where as the 1200 will only shoot (up to) 2 3/4" shells.The Winchester 1400 is pretty much a semi-auto version of the 1200 (and not a very reliable semi-auto in the author's experience).My late model 1200 takes 2 3/4" or 3" magnum shells.

Post 64 Winhester Model 70 sn's made by Winchester ended in July1981 at G1,525,323. After that date, USRAC continued to make the Winchester brand (rifle and shotgun)under license from the Olin Corporation. This final year of Olin licensed production saw the introduction of the "XTR Featherweight". Not many made it to dealers before USRAC took over. The only way to tell who made it would be to look at the recoil pad. It will be marked either Winchester or USRAC Value depends on many factors, condition being paramount. You could be in the 350-700 range.

No. 'Browning' hasn't been Browning in a long time. It is owned by a Belgian corporation. Likewise, 'Winchester' has not been Winchester in a long time. It became US Repeating Arms Company years ago, and is now owned by the same Belgian corporation that owns the Browning name. The actual 'Winchester' trade-name is owned by the Olin Corporation (used to make the guns, now just makes the ammunition) and was licensed to USRAC. USRAC made the Model 70, Model 1300 and Model 94 at their plant in New Haven CT, which was closed as of March 2006. There are no plans for those three models to be produced anywhere else, per USRAC. They will continue to produce their other models which are actually made overseas. The USRAC plant in New Haven, along with all fixtures, tooling, etc, is currently for sale. The winning buyer will have the opportunity to negotiate with the Olin Corporation for licensing the Winchester name. It is not a package deal.
