While these are very well made firearms, the value of the traditional sidelock rifles has decreased as in-line muzzle loaders have become more popular. These can be found in very good condition for about $250. I shoot a T-C Hawken in 50 cal, and it is an excellent rifle.

Muzzle loading guns must be loaded in parts though the end of the barrel. The method of igniting the gunpowder in a muzzle loader is different than modern guns in that it uses a primer cap or pan instead of hitting primer inside of a bullet shell. Muzzle loaders are neither center fire nor rim fire.
not sure if this is what you are looking for but a musket is usually smooth bored meaning it has no rifling in the barrel where a muzzle loader can have rifling. A muzzle loader refers to any weapon that is loaded thru the muzzle in a simple definition and it can be either smooth bored like a musket or rifled like a Pennsylvania long rifle or like most modern muzzle loaders are today

The Thopson center arms is a young gun manufacturer so all of their products could be bought back in the 70's and 80's. This rifle is not a super rare gun many were made after the movie "Jeramiah Johnson" staring Robert Redford. I would price it at mabey $250-$375 above what you paid for it. Unlike the modern In-line muzzle loader it will not lose value it will only gain just like a original Bear…
What is the value of a Thompson center arms 50 caliber percussion cap reegade model 8403 muzzle loader?
Why is it important to ensure your muzzle loader can handle modern smokeless powder as a propellant?
Your question answers itself, "muzzle loader". You load it from the muzzle. Actually, that's incorrect. They use the term "muzzle loader" improperly. It's a bolt action black powder rifle. The powder is pre-pressed into slugs that you load into the chamber, along with wadding and a bullet. I would guess you could load it down the muzzle, but it's faster and easier to buy the slugs and load that way.
