The value of firearms can, to some extent, be likened to selling, or buying, used cars. Condition is everything. This is especially true when considering firearms that have become collectable (This includes the M#12).The sporting section of any large bookstore sells book, that are updated yearly, that will answer this question. The "Blue Book of Gun Values" lists values of fron $400 (for a gun of 60% condition) to $925 for a 100% gun. 100% means just like it came from the factory, no excuses. These values are what you could expect to pay at a gunshop, which means thay would give no more than 50 to 60% of that figure. A person to person transactions should net you somewhere in between thoes values. For a 20 gauge model 12 as you described in 100% condition I'd give you $900 bucks right now. A bidding war for a 100% gun might bring much more. As you described the gun, using the blue book as a guide, I'd say $750 maybe a little less is what a gunshop would ask if it were on their rack.

A modified Winchester 1892. There were two of them used in the filming, and a Spanish "El Tigre" clone of the Winchester (used when the rifle was to be handled roughly. BTW, the Winchester Mdl 1892 was not made until AFTER the period of time that the show was based on- so Lucas McCain was shooting a rifle that had not yet been made.
