Two completely different coins have used this design.
If it's a large coin, around 40mm in diameter, is dated in the 1980s or later and says 1 OZ SILVER or something similar on the back, it's a bullion piece sold for its metal value. As of 07/2008 that's about $18.
If it's around 32mm in diameter and is dated between 1916 and 1947, you have a circulation half dollar. Its value depends very much on its date, how worn it is, and what mint mark if any it has. There's a list of values at Related Links, below.
