Gold plated coins are a promotional item, have no collector value, and don't receive an additional market premium for being plated. Note that gold plating coins for advertising, promotions and high school electrolysis experiments have been going on for some time.
That's not an official mint product. You most likely have -
> a collector's piece struck specially in gold, in which case it would be worth the current spot price for 14K gold, or
> if it's otherwise identical to a standard half dollar, it's just an ordinary cupronickel coin that has been gold plated. In that case here would only be at most a few dollars worth of gold in the plating, not enough to try to recover.
To work out the gold value simply weigh the coin and then follow the related link to the Gold Calculator and it will calculate the value for you.

MoreIt's very unlikely that the coin is made entirely of 14K gold. It's very common for companies to gold-plate standard US Coins and sell them as special collectibles. However there is not a large secondary market for these items so unless you can find a niche collector who's interested, they tend to be worth only the value of the underlying coin. For Kennedy halves, that depends on its date because they used 3 different metals: 90% silver for 1964 coins only, 40% silver for 1965-70, and copper-nickel since then.if it the small one made by bradford exchange that you are talking about. today is 11-10-12 the price of gold is $1731. an ounce. that coin is worth $4.13 in scrap, but you would have to take less so the broker could make some money too
The US Mint has never made a JFK memorial half dollar of any type or date.
Please post a new question with a better description of the coin.
It is only gold plated which adds no extra value. Since it is a gold plated coin it is considered altered and is worth face value.
The Mint does NOT make gold half dollars. The coin has been gold plated. Gold plated Kennedy halves are only face value.
It's only gold plated. It's worth around $4 and maybe a few cents extra for the gold plating.
Gold-plated but not gold. All 1972 halves were made of copper-nickel and are only worth 50 cents in circulated condition.
The U.S. Mint has never made a "Memorial" Kennedy half dollar. Many different society's have counter stamped & gold plated Kennedy half dollars an sold them as "Memorial" coins. The coins are considered altered and have no numismatic value.
Although it's gold plated, the coin did not have any collectible value to start with. Kennedy half dollars are not rare or even scarce. It's considered a novelty coin that's only value is to someone who wants it.
First it's gold plated, but not by the mint. And it's a common Eisenhower dollar and value is what ever you can get.
It's made of brass, not gold plated, and it's only worth face value in circulated condition.
None of the Kennedy Bicentennial Half Dollar coins struck for general circulation have more than face value. Only proof and uncirculated collectors coins sold from the Mint have premiums
It's a gold plated novelty coin that just a dollar plus the 3 cents worth of gold
There was no 1969 gold Kennedy made. The coin is gold plated and has no gold or collector value. Gold plated coins are known as novelty items and are worthless, there are thousands of them floating around, don't buy one!
Gold-plated, not gold. A lot of private companies took ordinary halves, plated them, and sold them as "collectibles" but they have very little value to most collectors because they're considered to be altered coins. The good news is that the underlying coin is 40% silver which makes it worth about $5 as of 10/2011.
