1893 is one of the scarcest dates for Morgan dollars, so it's extremely important to have your coin inspected by an expert to make sure it's not a fake, especially if it has an S or CC mint mark. The mint mark position is on the back, above the DO in DOLLAR. It may be blank or there may be a CC, O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2010:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $161

Moderately worn - $192

Slightly worn - $210

Almost no wear - $350

Uncirculated - $700 to $56,560 depending on quality

"CC" mint mark (Carson City):

Very worn condition - $184

Moderately worn - $300

Slightly worn - $650

Almost no wear - $2,150

Uncirculated - $3,810 to $187,500

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn condition - $150

Moderately worn - $222

Slightly worn - $318

Almost no wear - $940

Uncirculated - $1,950 to $287,500

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn condition - $2,520

Moderately worn - $4,200

Slightly worn - $5,970

Almost no wear - $23,714

Uncirculated - $84,380 to $1,150,000
