The MN says it was made in Mexico.....New Mexican made tele can be bought for $350-$400.....and regretfully Mexican made guitars don't appreciate like American ones. May be worth $300.00 if in as good shape as you say.
The Z represents an American made instrument. The 9 after the Z represents 2009. For example a Z3------ would be an American made Fender produced in 2003.

Fender makes the Stratocaster and Telecaster. There are many companies that base their guitars off of Strat- and Tele- designs, but Fender made the first Telecaster (then known as the Broadcaster) in 1950, and the first Stratocaster in 1954.
when looking to buy a new stratocastor, i went to Sam Ash and saw this new "highway one" model. i asked the guy and he told me that they are American made, but overall, that is the only difference between the Mexican fenders and highway ones. but. American made means more inspection and less things can go wrong. still, i ended up buying an American standard stratocastor and am pretty happy with it.
