The Model 51 was introduced in 1960 at S# 526xx and were 3 1/2" barrels with square butts. There were a few round butts made and they are very rare. If this has a flat latch, it was probably made before 1963. I strongly suggest you go to the Smith and Wesson sight and download the sheet to request the history of your revolver. I think it costs $35.00. It may be worth $700.00 or more.
