Wheat pennies were not made until 1909. In 1900 the pennies were Indian Head Cents. A 1900 Indian Head cent would be worth about $1 in Good condition (good condition is the fourth worst condition possible).
U.S. pennies have never contained silver. Your coin might be silver plated for jewelry or other decorations.

Check the date again. Wheat pennies were made from 1909 till 1958.
It depends on how you define value. Do you mean monetary value or personal value. Pennies were very valuable in the 1900's but they were only worth one cent.
With the possible exception of traders tokens (with the traders business name on them), there were no "New Zealand" Pennies minted prior to 1940. Any Pennies circulating in New Zealand prior to 1940 would have been mostly British Pennies and some Australian Pennies.

Nothing in that range is classified as rare, but any British Penny in mint condition from those years would have a modest collector value to it.
