A trench knife is a specialized knife made specifically for the close quarter combat on World War 1. Most of the fighting took place in narrow trenches or on "no mans land" a trench knife, which consisted of a brass knuckle with a long blade permanently affixed to it was a handy weapon to have. The trench knife doubles as a brass knuckle and a knife; with the knife securly attached to the user's hand, the enemy could not easily take the knife from the user. In trench warfare where firing a gun while in the trench could accidentally harm a fellow soldier who happens to be behind an enemy, a knife or bayonet was a safer means to eliminate an enemy.
A trench stretch is a long system of trench.
yes there was, there was usually a base trench, and close by was a suppport trench
At the front there was the front line, then there was the support trench and at the back was a reserve trench.
yes, brass knuckle trench knife made by L&FC (I think) in the US. Knuckle knife dated 1918. Although knuckle portion was removable, it generally was not taken apart. It was carried in a scabbard made for the knife. It is a collectable item...............

yes, 1918 LF&C mfg. trench knife. the handle can be removed but not recommended.
There was a trench knife issued to US Army troops that was a knife that had a "Brass Knuckles" handle. Brass Knuckles is a brass "ring" that you slip over your hand, each finger going into a loop. This is used for hand-to-hand fighting. The knife had this same construction as part of the handle/grip. I'm not sure if this was an official Army issue. The Army preferred the soldier carry a bayonet that would fit onto the rifle. This brass knuckle trench knife couldnot do this.
