There is no valve adjustment on that engine. If you have noise coming from the valve train you probably have worn parts such as camshaft, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms and valves.

Watch injector go down and as it does, look at balancer lines. when VS line lines up with the pointer cast into front lower drivers side set injector at bottom 60 in pounds and valves on same cylinder
The last real enduro built by Yamaha came out in 1973, and while upgraded with a 21” front wheel, reed valves and a gussied up paint scheme. The top speed for a 1973 Yamaha 36 is around 80 mph.
Your engine is shot. Rings or valves, probably both, are shot.
you don`t its a two stroke as long as the key is in the flywheel that's it you don`t have valves like a 4 stroke you have reed valves which don`t get timed with the crank

Intake valves are set at 4 thousandths and exhaust set at 6 thousandths.
