Generally people refer to an oils viscosity by the number after the W
In your case the viscosity would be 40. Really both number are a measurement of viscosity. Without getting to involved... the 15 represents how well the oil flows at a cold temperature, also know as an oils winter weight. The 40 indicates how well the oil flows when the oil is hot.
